The road to Halls Creek which if you find a map heads n/w bypassing Darwin. I am told it is red dirt and basicly straight all the way!!!!! I have made some great friends here, one young couple have just bought a 4WD twin cab ute, so have promised we will do that trip later in the year. It is the sort of trip one does once......... I do look forward to that.
All the interesting roads are 4WD only- great at the moment, but a storm can change things dramatically.I did about 200m on this road- the poor 121 nearly rattled herself apart- the corrugations horrendous.
I still find this landscape very appealing. Maybe its the warmth of the colours contrasting with the harshness of trying to make a living in it. Maybe its just so different to NZ.
About 60km north of Alice I found this marker to the Tropic of Capricorn. I had not realised how far north I actually was.
This week has probably been one of the most frustrating I have ever spent- fighting bureaucracy at its worst. I needed my Aust Institute of Radiography Accreditation to work elsewhere in Oz.( N.T. has a reciprocal agreement with NZ...there is some sanity here.!!) I spent 2 weeks thinking.........
sleeping...relaxing...
reading.......
Just waiting for it all to be sorted. Many phone calls all over Oz, slamming phones down in absolute frustration- (not really like me at all!!) Then the better news started- Fri morning-I heard my car had finally sold- so I had money to keep home bills paid. Thankyou Chris for your hard work...... Friday lunchtime it finally all came together- I was, who I had been trying to convince them I was. I was able to book flights to Melbourne and I leave Mon afternoon. The job I am going to is in the hospital in Geelong, and is for 6 1/2 weeks, then I return here to Alice.
